I had the opportunity to visit the Evergreen Cemetery this past weekend. What an experience. I spent hours photographing the site, so much history to record. I wish they would restore the chapel. I differently will come back on a foggy day.
This cemetery does not honor the deceased at all. Cemetery is in terrible condition. There is no grass. Headstones have been severely neglected. I would never bury a loved one here. It is ashamed that the dead have to buried and their resting places look like the slum of this area that this place is in. I wish there was legal action that could be taken.
I do not understand why this cemetery is NOT well kept. Every time I come to visit my mother-n-law, we water her and her surrounding neighbors. We try our best to keep her plot clean. Please do better. As the family, we don’t deserve this. For our dead loved ones, They don’t deserve this. These photos were taken this Mother’s Day. It’s so upsetting to see this place like this... it really just tells me you don’t care. Please do better. 🙇🏻♀️
Very large cemetery. Well kept and full of history. If you enjoy seeing old gravestones or want a nice quiet place to walk and enjoy looking at history, I would recommend a visit.
William Joseph Seymour (May 2, 1870 – September 28, 1922) was an African American, holiness preacher who initiated the Azusa Street Revival, an influential event in the rise of the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements.
I drove by and there it was. The sheer magnitude of the headstones, all shapes and sizes took my breath away. I felt the Souls. Beautiful.
The upkeep of the grounds is horrible. It doesn't seem like they take care of this place like they used to. if the grass is cut the debris is left covering up tombstones. You have to clean and pull the weeds yourself. Believe it or not my father's stone is underneath this.
Historic Wilmington cemetery built in 1857 is the oldest active graveyard in Los Angeles County.
